Gib Shanley Was The "Voice of the Browns" To Me
I'll never forget the many Browns games I listened to, in the absence of the availability of television, with Gib Shanley as my guide. For that matter, I can remember watching the television and turning the sound down and letting Gib be my soundtrack for the game. He will truly be missed by me and all the Browns faithful that were blessed with the 25-plus years he covered our beloved Browns. Our condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Shanley. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Technical Problem with iTunes
If you haven't gotten your iTunes subscription automatically updated this week, it's my fault (kinda). It seems there's either a "feature" or a "bug," depending on how you look at it, in iTunes. When you change anything in the iTunes summary section of the feed, it breaks the automated nature of the subscription, forcing you to have to click the "subscribe" button on our iTunes page. Please, look to the right, in the thisBrownsfan's Web Links and go to our iTunes page and re-subscribe. All of that because I decided to change the copyright field from 2007 to 2008. Sounds like a bug to me. Thanks for your patience and sorry for the inconvenience.

The Problem With Derek Anderson
Hey Guys,
I just registered to this site, but have been listening to your podcast for a while. You all do a great job of providing Cleveland Browns info to fans during both the season and off-season.
I wanted to weigh in on the hot topic of this season and now off-season--Derek Anderson. I actually have a blog myself (http://www.clevelandbrownsnews.com/michaelmoore/weblog) where I posted about this and other Cleveland Browns news. However, I wanted to share my two cents with fellow Browns fans. I wrote the following piece on Anderson back on December 27th, 2007, after Anderson's performance helped the Browns lose an opportunity to gain a playoff berth. My feelings on Anderson certainly haven't changed for the better since the Pro Bowl.

Winslow Is A Keeper, That's For Sure
I don't know if K2's description of the aftermath of the 2005 accident matches the Browns; however, it's enough to know that he desires a new, better contract. If anyone has proven, on the field, what he's worth to the Browns, Kellen Winslow, Jr., has.
Here's a piece on K2's statement(s) on NFL Radio Thursday
Bud Shaw's Got A Point About DA Here
Reading this piece by Bud Shaw is very instructive, if you've been wondering what the Browns should do about DA. Ideally, they'll be able to sign DA and go forward with the future and a good backup. However, I don't look for it to go that smoothly. I think that DA and his reps want desperately to test the waters of the free-agent market to see if there's Romo-type money out there for him.

The Off-Season Chugs Along -- Already!
Here's a little piece at Cleveland.com that introduces the idea that contract extension talks have started with Crennel's agent. I find some of the reader comments after the article interesting. It certainly shows that support for Romeo -- or positive perception of what he's done -- is not a universal thing among Browns fans.

thisBrownsfan's Podcast, Season 3, Episode 1 (Show 59) -- Get It Now!!
It's the start of a new season Browns fans. In Season 3, Episode 1, Paul and Alva recap some of the highlights of the past season, take a trip to Streetsboro and check in with NoR, and take a speculative look at some potentials for the off-season in Cleveland. Enjoy!

It's Win And They're In, Lose and , Well??
Marla Ridenour, of the Akron Beacon Journal, breaks down the playoff implications and/or consequences of the Browns vs. Bengals contest. The importance of this game can't be stressed enough.

Playoffs, Part Of the 9-5 Browns' Lexicon
Even the players might be allowed to mention the playoffs during locker room interviews now. Romeo certainly won't be able to feign complete ignorance on the subject anymore. He's coached, along with his capable assistants, this team to a fine 9-5 record with two games left to play. Nothing but a complete meltdown can prevent the Browns from some National Television exposure in the postseason GO BROWNS!!

Night Parade
Now we're getting somewhere. And the normally-reserved demeanor of Romeo is showing some flashes of enthusiasm for a season where so much has gone right for the Cleveland Browns.
Do the Browns need a scare to win?
It seems like this year's Browns just can't really manage a win without some glaring, in-game reminder that this could just as easily have been a loss. I do have to say, after that reminder and as a brief break from the fourth quarter's mini on-side kicking clinic, the Browns offense, in the personage of Jamal Lewis, iced the game in true AFC North style. Browns fans, we REALLY could see a playoff berth this season. Whether what may, that'll be a refreshing change.
